NursingVET in School NursingBankstown, Bowral, Campbelltown, Fairfield and Liverpool Hospitals through NSW Health Registered Training Organisation now deliver the Human Services subject to Government and some Private/Catholic school students in the South Western Sydney Local Health District (SWSLHD). This qualification is a 4-unit subject in year 11 and a 2-unit subject in year 12 and consists of 360 hours theory and 105 hours of clinical practice over seven school terms. The course commences in February 2015 and finishes in September 2016. All components of this qualification are conducted in the hospital of your choice and enable the ideal integration of theoretical and practical components of the qualification. The theoretical component will run on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday afternoon at your preferred hospital from approximately 1.30 – 5.30 pm. It is a nationally recognised qualification that is an entry point into jobs in hospitals, community and residential care. This is a great start to a nursing and health related career and may provide advanced standing into Enrolled Nursing and other allied health courses. Undergraduate Assistant in Nursing (AIN) program Casual employment is available for undergraduate students undertaking the Bachelor of Nursing. Many facilities across SWSLHD offer this learning opportunity. Potential Undergraduate AIN’s need to provide evidence that they’ve completed 12- 18 months of an undergraduate nursing course prior to employment with SWSLHD. Evidence includes: Proof of enrolment in BN program and all clinical placement results. Clinical support is provided and the majority of students employed are successful at gaining entry into the Transition Nurse Support program in SWSLHD. Positions are advertised on the SWSLHD recruitment website and local papers. Transition Nurse Support Program SWSLHD employs a number of transition nurses each year throughout the many individual facilities within the district. Transition nurses are integral to the maintenance of a skilled and valued nursing workforce now and into the future. It is important that each transition nurse has a consistent and positive beginning nurse experience, that maximises learning opportunities and offers an appropriate level of both clinical and emotional support.
