Supporting someone with Cancer

Caring for someone with cancer is being made easier through a wide range of resources and practical and emotional support available to help both the person with cancer and their families and Carers.

Cancer Council of NSW Has a wide range of resources such as fact sheets, face to face support groups, telephone and online support to people with cancer and their carers and families.

Cancer Helpline is a free confidential service staffed by nurses who can help anyone calling find services available in their local area  

Publications The Cancer Council has a range of free publications available on their website or by requesting posted copies

South Western Sydney Local Health District Cancer Services provide comprehensive Oncology consultative services, as well as:

  • Specialty Surgery
  • Radiation treatment
  • Chemotherapy
  • Palliative Care
  • Haematology
  • Cancer Genetics
  • Psychology services; as well as a full schedule of support programmes for families, carers and staff, as well as education materials for specific tumour groups, and supportive care pathways.

The SWSLHD Cancer Care Coordination Service is a hospital service available to the person diagnosed with cancer and their families to help them find their way through the hospital and the community health system. Contact 0439 813 807 8am-4:30pm Monday to Friday.

Cancer Wellness Centres are located in Campbelltown & Liverpool Hospitals and they have informal and comfortable areas for cancer patients and their carers where they can access information, advice and programs designed to support wellbeing.

Canteen Counselling Service

The Canteen Counselling Service is a free and specialised program for young people aged 12-24 years old who have a parent with cancer or whose parent has died from cancer.
