Current Research Projects

TARGET The Augmented versus Routine approach to Giving Energy Trial
SuDDICU A crossover, cluster randomised controlled trial of selective decontamination of the digestive tract in intensive care patients in Australia and New Zealand.
PLUS To determine whether fluid resuscitation and therapy with a “balanced” crystalloid solution (Plasma-Lyte 148®) decreases 90-day mortality in critically ill patients requiring fluid resuscitation when compared with the same treatment using normal saline.
NETS in ICU Patients Blood sample study measuring concentration of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) in patients with septic shock, trauma with 1 organ support, systemic inflammatory response (SIR) post cardiac bypass surgery, pancreatitis or ARDS, and testing the efficacy of novel compounds in inhibiting damaging proteins produced by the immune system that cause significant pathology in these clinical scenarios.
FRACAS Fluid Responsiveness After Cardiac Surgery is an observational study of monitoring strategies to improve the understanding and management of fluid therapy after cardiac surgery.
CARERA Cerebrovascular AutoRegulation and ReActivity is an observational study of the relationship between arterial pressure and the blood flow through the brain. The study is conducted in patients following cardiac arrest, septic shock and cardiac surgery.
OPTIMUM1

Optimising airway pressure based on tracheal In situ measurements in patients undergoing mechanical ventilation is an observational study comparing different approaches to lung recruitment manoeuvres and lung protective ventilation using intratracheal pressure monitoring in addition to the standard pressure monitoring provided by the ventilator.
