Liverpool ICU is a state of the art 60 bed-space adult facility and receives C-24 accreditation from the College of Intensive Care MedicineIt is the lead ICU for South Western Sydney Local Health District and provides intensive care services for more than 1,000,000 residents. The Local Health District also includes the hospitals of Bankstown, Camden, Campbelltown, Fairfield, and Bowral and covers an area of 6,237 sq kms.

The ICU service is led by a team of 21 Specialists, 7 Nurse Unit Managers, supported by 42 medical trainees and more than 200 nursing staff, physiotherapists and support staff. Our team is proud to have played a major role during the response to the COVID-19 pandemic as one of the units with the largest number of admissions in Australia.

Additionally, the ICU staff provides the Medical Emergency Team service to the hospital, which was innovatively created at the Liverpool Hospital in 1990 and has since been introduced across NSW as "Between the Flags" and to many hospitals around the world. We are also a member of the Trauma Team and see more than 300 major trauma admissions to the ICU each year.

Liverpool ICU has a major focus on training and research and is a proud member of the Australian and New Zealand Intensive Care Society Clinical Trial Group as a major recruiting centre.
