Ethics Exchange

Consent in Challenging Circumstances is now available. In this inaugural session of Ethics Exchange, you'll hear about the sensitivities of genetic research as well as a possible change to use of information; the crazy juggling of confronting requirements in ICU research; how Chat GTP can be used to better inform potential research participants; and much more.

Speakers: Kirsten Boggs, Senior Genetic Counsellor, Australian Genomics based at Sydney Children's Hospital Network.

Questionnaire and Survey Design, Professor Sarah Dennis – 14 October 2022. This workshop will take you through the basics of questionnaire design and survey methods. It will discuss how to maximise response rates and common mistakes people make with designing their questions.

How and why use social media to increase research impact: Featuring A/Prof Elise Baker, Natalie Cupac, Judy Reading and Leila Mohammadi. Wednesday 15 February 2023. This workshop aims to provide attendees with an oversight of how to appropriately use social media channels to increase the impact of their research. Attendees will learn about measuring their research impact, considerations for increasing their online presence, local strategies within SWSLHD and more.

 

Ethics and Research Governance Workshop Series

Workshop 1: Overview of Requirements for Submitting Applications – 27 February 2023
This workshop will detail the pre-approval requirements for a smooth ethics and governance (SSA) submission in the Research Ethics Governance Information System (REGIS). This topic will cover all submissions from retrospective reviews through to clinical trials.

Workshop 2: Requirements for Post-Approval Submissions – 28 March 2023, 2:30-3:30pm
This workshop provides practical steps on how to complete all post-approval requirements for ethics and governance applications, including Research Ethics Governance Information System (REGIS). This topic will cover:

• Annual Reports
• Addition/Change of Investigators
• Ethics Extension

Workshop 3: Safety Submissions – 24 April 2023
This workshop aims to provide researchers with a better understanding of all safety submissions for SWSLHD Research Ethics and Governance. This topic will cover:
• Significant Safety Issues (SSIs)
• Suspected Unexpected Serious Adverse Reaction (SUSARs)
• Protocol Deviations and Serious Breaches
• Safety Annual Reports
• Development Safety Update Reports (DSURs)

Workshop 4: Research Contracts and Agreements – 22 May 2023
This workshop will go through what is required for contracts and research agreements, including when an agreement may be required, what the research office looks for when reviewing agreements, how to access and use standard templates and common mistakes when submitting contracts for review. This session will also detail how to submit agreements for signature.

Identifying and mapping research impacts, Tamika Heiden - Research Impact Academy – 6 September 2022 (Sponsored by UNSW) .The workshop will include a number of interactive components and group sessions throughout the session.
Content of workshop:
• Terminology and definitions of impact
- Overview of what makes a pathway to impact
- Definitions and terminology in and impact.
• Understanding research impact
- Deep dive into the four types of impact, as required by the NHMRC (Knowledge, Health, Economic, and Social)
- Identifying indicators and evidence of impact
- Using impact logic to map out your impact
- Evidence considerations by impact and indicator type, what is needed to support your claims
At the conclusion of the workshop, participants will have a broader understanding of what impact is and how to map it in a logical manner.

Elements of Knowledge Translation, Tamika Heiden - Research Impact Academy – 14 September 2022 (Sponsored by UNSW). The workshop will include a number of interactive components and group sessions throughout the session.
Content of workshop:
• Terminology and definitions in translation
- Outline and overview of some relevant terms and language in translation.
• Understanding translation
- Elements that are part of the process of translation.
- Integrated models of translation.
- How to embed translation into new and existing projects.
- Stakeholder involvement and relevance to translation.
At the conclusion of the workshop, participants will know how to plan and monitor the translation elements of current and new projects.
