1.  SWSLHD Academic Unit

In 2015, the South Western Sydney Local Health District (SWSLHD) identified the need to promote Academic Units. Funding was granted to:

  • Establish two new Academic Units:
    o   The Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism Translational Research Unit (DOMTRU) and;
    o   Liver Cancer and Disease Centre (LCDC)
     
  • Enhance one existing unit:
    o   Stroke and Health Service Research Unit
     
  • Recognise three established units:
    o   South Western Sydney Academic Mental Health Program - Click to view video

    o   South Western Sydney Academic Department of Respiratory and Sleep Medicine -Click to view video

Funding was granted to the following units for the 2018 SWSLHD Academic Units:

  • Establish two new Academic Units:
    o  Women's Health Initiative Translational Unit (WHITU)
    o  South West Sydney Limb Preservation and Wound Research Unit
       
  • Enhance two existing units:
    o  Gut and Microbiome: Role in Health and Disease
    o  BestSTART-SW (System Transformation and Research Translation - South West Sydney):
        Children, Young People and Families Health Research Translation Unit 

2.  Early and Mid-Career Research Support Program

SWSLHD recognises that research is an integral part of improving the delivery of health care.  Communities benefit significantly from having a vibrant teaching and research ethos in healthcare facilities.

To support SWSLHD's commitment to research, SWSLHD is announcing an Early and Mid-Career Research Support Program.

3.  SWSLHD and Ingham Institute Research Scholarship Support Program

We are offering support for further education to develop research skills or support a research degree to a maximum of $10,000 per annum per individual. Up to four scholarships will be available for the 2016 calendar year. Two scholarships will be available to support a study towards a higher degree by coursework, and two scholarships will be available for PhD research.
