MULTIDISCIPLINARY TUMOUR GROUP

The Principles of Multidisciplinary Care

A team approach, involving core disciplines integral to the provision of good care, with input from other specialties as required

Communication among team members regarding treatment planning

Access to the full therapeutic range for all patients, regardless of geographical remoteness or size of institution

Provision of care in accord with nationally agreed standards

Involvement of patients in decisions about their care

A MDT Workshop will be held on 8 February 2018 to discuss clinical data supporting MDT research, some alternative MDT models, and ways to optimise our MDT activity using consistent support, priority referral criteria and record management tools.

With an ever increasing focus on Multidisciplinary cancer care, the development of performance measures and TCRC funding for MDTs, it is important that we leverage successful components from other groups to create the most suitable model for each of our MDTs.  We aim to gain input from tumour groups to work through key challenges and opportunities, to improve the quality of the information collected and reported at MDTs, discuss the ongoing support required, and the impact of referral and diagnostic pathways.

Invitations were extended to MDT chairs, care co-ordinators, researchers and individuals involved in processes, data collection and improvement initiatives and encouraged them to invite as many others as they deemed appropriate for a robust discussion about the future of our MDTs.
