Liverpool has provided a fully comprehensive range of cancer services since 1995. Adult cancer treatment and services include Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Haematology and Palliative Care Consultations, Gynae Oncology Services, Chemotherapy, Radiotherapy, Apheresis, Allied Health and Support (more). We provide a multi-disciplinary approach to cancer care, with direct access to acute and surgical services.

research and medical conferencing.
Liverpool employs 200 staff, and provided treatment and management for over 6000 new patients in 2011/2012; 12,108 chemotherapy treatments and 13,233 radiotherapy therapy treatments were delivered. The ward also has an Apheresis unit attached that provides stem cell and blood treatment for outpatient and inpatient therapy.
Liverpool outpatient services are open from 0800 to 1700 Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays.

Liverpool Cancer Services provides privately referred specialist consultative services for Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Haematology, Palliative Care, Surgeons, Radiologists and Nuclear Medicine physicians. Referrals from a medical practitioner are recommended, to ensure appropriate assessments for care and treatment.
Multidisciplinary Care
The MDT Programmes include care that continues after the end of treatment with follow-up care. Professional staff and services support patients and their families during their cancer journey - from the time patients are diagnosed through to the end of their treatment.
Experts from the fields of oncology, physical therapy and support unite to offer each patient exceptional care, and advanced options for treatment. They are available to provide patients with information, education, practical and emotional support, nutritional therapy, rehabilitation, and pain and symptom management. Everyone plays an active and collaborative role in developing and implementing a treatment plan tailored to each individual.

The Chemotherapy Day Centre is staffed by specialist nurses experienced in the administration of Chemotherapy and Cancer Care.
In 2011, a newly renovated chemotherapy suite was opened. The larger treatment space has increased future capacity to 21 treatment chairs and 4 beds. The Chemotherapy Day Centre provides services to Medical Oncology, Haematology and Palliative Care clients who reside within the South West Sydney Local Health District on an outpatient basis. Bookings for the Chemotherapy Day Centre are made through the booking nurse. Treatment times may vary between each patient and you can discuss this with your nurse or call the Day Centre before your arrival at the Centre. The nursing staff of the Chemotherapy Centre are available to you for assistance and information regarding your treatment. The Chemotherapy Day Centre contact numbers are 87385210 and 87385209.
Cancer Patient Emergency Assessment Unit
All patients who are seen within CTC who arrive unwell, or develop signs or symptoms related to their treatment are triaged and managed within Liverpool Cancer Services by an experienced Assessment Nurse, maintaining continuity of care and minimising the number of patients presenting to emergency, with the intention of preventing hospital admissions. In our first year, there were 721 patients presenting to the assessment unit, instead of emergency, with 100 direct admissions. Patients requiring admission as a result of changed medical condition may also go through the assessment unit. Some patients may be directed to emergency as a result of space availability, and the assessment nurse will liaise with bed management in these instances.
Liverpool Radiation Treatment
Radiation treatment is delivered via 3 linear accelerators, an othovoltage machine, a tomotherapy unit and a high dose rate afterloading machine for brachytherapy. The latest in technology and information systems enables safe and accurate radiation treatment, and electronic management of patient information. The advanced XIO planning system uses CT Scanning techniques to evaluate and direct exact treatment delivery. Over 13,000 treatments were delivered in 2011 by our experienced and highly trained radiation therapy staff. Radiation nurses are involved in assessment of any side effects that may be experienced from the treatment.
Liverpool Transportation & Parking
Transportation is available at Liverpool for patients on treatment who cannot arrive by any other means. Pickup is based on a scheduled bus route, so it is important to indicate your requirements before treatment is arranged, so we can ensure you arrive before your scheduled treatment time.
Volunteer Service
Our volunteers would be happy to make you a cup of tea or coffee, or a cool drink, at no charge before entering the Day Centre for your treatment, look for the ladies in pink.
The Wig Library operates a wig service every second Tuesday, for those with hair-loss side-affects of chemotherapy, ask your nurse for details.
Look Good, Feel Better programme helps with the physical side-affects of treatment, self-image and is a fun day, ask your nurse for details.
Costs
Chemotherapy procedures delivered at the CTC are covered by Medicare which will be bulk billed on the day of your treatment.
Chemotherapy drugs are available on prescription. You will receive an account for the prescription by the Pharmacy that fills the prescription. The cost of this prescription depends on whether you have a pension or Health Care card or not. Privately insured patients do not pay a 'gap' payment for chemotherapy.
Radiotherapy delivered at the CTC is covered by Medicare which is bulk billed on the day of your treatment.
Consultations at Cancer Therapy Centre are bulk-billed through Medicare.
Consultations Haematology attract a gap payment of less than $40.
Privately insured patients do not have out of pocket expenses for chemotherapy, radiotherapy or consultations.
Overseas patients, or patients not covered under Medicare or private insurance are required to pay the account in full for all services prior to treatment.
Inpatient services
Important Note: Medicare Safety Net
For out-of-hospital services, the maximum "gap" (the difference between the Medicare rebate and the schedule fee) payable by a family group or individual in any one calendar year is $345.50. Thereafter, you are reimbursed by Medicare 100% of the schedule fee. There are additional rules regarding the "extended" Medicare safety net, related to all out-of-pocket costs for Medicare-claimable items. Information about this scheme can be obtained from Medicare.
