Respiratory Failure Service (RFS)

The Respiratory Failure service is a multidisciplinary team that consists of a Sleep Advanced Trainee, Clinical Nurse Specialist and Senior Respiratory Physiotherapist. The role of the Respiratory Failure Service (RFS) at Liverpool Hospital is to establish, optimise, and titrate Non-Invasive Ventilation (NIV) for patients with acute hypercapnic respiratory failure. In doing so, the RFS aims to facilitate and expedite transfer from ED to the ward, bypassing the need for an ICU admission, and providing support and care to suitable patients on the respiratory ward instead. The RFS also aims to support, review and optimise patients on CPAP and BIPAP across the hospital and in outpatient clinics on an as needed basis.
