Staff of Newborn Care

Doctors
There are several different levels of doctors as they progress through medical training and specialisation.
There is always a Consultant Staff Neonatologist overseeing management at all times.
Neonatal Fellows are well advanced in training to become consultants and will often act in this role.
Neonatal Registrars and Career Medical Officers already have some Neonatal Experience and are consolidating this in their general Paediatric training.
Neonatal Residents are at the beginning of Paediatric Training and are usually having their first exposure to Neonatal medicine.

Nurses
The Nurse Manager and Nurse Unit Manager coordinate the large number of nurses needed to run a NICU.
The Clinical Nurse Consultant oversees and implements the advanced techniques used and is involved in NSW collaborative research.
Nurse Educators assist, support and educate the nurses who are training in Neonatal Nursing especially as they become involved in caring for the sicker babies.
Clinical Nurse Specialists are nurses with extra experience and credentials in Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing.
Registered Nurses start as new graduates and become progressively more skilled and experienced over many years.

Allied Health
This multi-disciplinary team includes physiotherapists, speech therapists, occupational therapists, social workers and a clinical psychologist
