The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Liverpool Hospital opened in 1994 and is the last NICU to be commissioned in NSW. Currently we are funded for 14 Intensive Care Beds and 19 Special Care Beds and are part of the Statewide Network that provides advanced care for sick newborns. Although we aim to predominantly look after the babies from our region in Southwest Sydney we frequently have babies transported from other areas including regional NSW.

Across South West Local Health District there are 16 Special Care Nursery Beds at Campbelltown, 10 beds  at Bankstown and 8 beds at Fairfeild. Depending on the level of care your baby needs, we may request that your baby is moved to another facility within the Local Health District or if you are from regional NSW closer to home. Its important that we use Intensive Care beds for our smallest and unwell babies. As babies grow and gets stronger, they can be cared for in our other special care nurseries.
