Clinical GeneticsThe clinical Genetics service is mainly an outpatients service, with inpatient consultations to all wards and NICU as required. The full range of clinical genetics services include reproductive genetics, paediatric and adult general genetics provided by clinical geneticists and genetic counsellors working together. Specialty services include examination of stillbirths in anatomical pathology, neuro-genetics and cardiac genetics in multidisciplinary clinics with relevant specialists. About Us The Department of Clinical Genetics based at Liverpool Hospital provides an outpatient and consultative service to patients and health professionals of SSWLHD. Genetic diagnosis, testing and test interpretation, information provision and counselling are provided by the clinical staff along with patient support and connecting families with community resources. Patients are seen who have, or are at risk of having, an inherited disorder, are concerned about a family member or the risk to their offspring having a birth defect or genetic disorder. Genetic services are provided by Clinical Geneticists who are specialist physicians and genetic counsellors who are specifically trained health professionals. Paternity and kinship testing is not offered for non-medical reasons. Please note that Clinical Genetics and Cancer Genetics are separate departments. Digital Referral Pathways to SWSLHDSouth Western Sydney Local Health District receives outpatient referrals through Consultmed, our secure online referral platform.
