Liverpool Hospital Today

Today

Liverpool Hospital has come a long way from its origins as a tent Hospital in the 1790s for soldiers and convicts. Following the completion of the Hospital's $390 million redevelopment, it is the largest Hospital and tertiary referral centre in NSW and one of the leading trauma centres in Australia.

It provides specialty services including medical, surgical, emergency, intensive care, oncology, mental health, women's health and newborn care for residents across south western Sydney and has a strong commitment to teaching and research across a wide range of disciplines.

Liverpool Hospital has always had a commitment to innovation that has resulted in a number of systems implemented in a number of Hospitals worldwide, including day of surgery admissions and the Medical Emergency Team (MET). It also houses a comprehensive ambulatory care centre and the Ingham Institute of Applied Medical Research.

The Hospital is located in one of the fastest growing areas in the state, with more than one million people expected to reside in south western Sydney by 2016. Liverpool Hospital has a capacity of 877 beds, 23 operating rooms and 60 critical care beds, with 76,811 admissions in the Emergency Department and 1,033,584 non-admitted patient services in 2013/2014 alone.

Liverpool Hospital also has the incredible support and involvement of the local community. In 2012, Liverpool Hospital Auxiliary celebrated 55 years of providing tireless support to the hospital and its patients.

The Hospital has an exciting future as it continues to grow and evolve to meet the needs of the growing population.
