Community and Consumer Participation

Support Us - Community ParticipationThe Fairfield Consumer and Community Participation (CCP) Network engages with health consumers, community, carers, and agencies to ensure the voices, issues, concerns and ideas of the Fairfield community have an opportunity to work in close partnership with the Local Health District (LHD). The LHD oversees a long established CCP strategic unit to oversee local facility / hospital networks, each formally supported by CCP Managers. Together they strive to provide engagement and participation at all levels, to ensure high quality health services are provided in South Western Sydney.

We invite you to look at our CCP framework which gives the history, structure, examples and lots more details about the commitment the SWS LHD has to the community.

Fairfield Hospital is committed to involving consumers, carers and community members at all levels of the organisation through a range of processes to enable an empowered and coordinated voice to be included in decision-making.

Fairfield Hospital will achieve this by:

  • working in partnership with consumers, community and both health and non- health services;
  • building the capacity of the staff and the organisation to undertake consumer, carer, and community participation - from the level of individual care to the level of system changes;
  • providing and integrating structures and processes for participation in all aspects of policy development, health service planning and quality improvement processes;
  • providing resources to ensure that community participation occurs equitably throughout the area;
  • providing information to our communities;
  • promoting, supporting and developing the capacity of community members to participate in health service planning, delivery and evaluation;
  • ensuring those involved in participation reflect the diversity of the South Western Sydney population;
  • encouraging innovative approaches to participation;
  • training and supporting staff to undertake community participation; and creating an open, transparent and accountable organisation"

Support Us - Community ParticipationThe Fairfield Consumer and Community Participation network is a diverse and dynamic group which meets on the last Friday of each month with the General Manager to discuss and learn how in partnership, better health care can be provided to the local community. These members also belong to other community groups that promote better health outcomes for the community.

Many of the network members sit on vital Hospital Committees such as: Clinical Council, Falls, Hand Hygiene, Disability, Building & Works, Chronic Care and Patient Safety. Some of these members also sit on District Committees such as: Consumer Community Council, Mental Health and Medicare Local.

Fairfield Hospital in partnership with the network promotes many health calendar events  during the year.

The Fairfield Community Participation Manager has very strong partnership with the Fairfield Multicultural Interagency which has over 200 members that work together to a better outcome for the community.

The Community Participation Manager also produces the monthly facility newsletter "News from Field" that is a medium that promotes all the events that occur at Fairfield Hospital.

In 2014, a schools program was implemented with the local schools of Fairfield together with NSW Ambulance Service where the General Manager, the Community Participation Manager and the NSW Ambulance Service presented relevant health information to primary students, high school students and the Parent & Community (P&C) Committees.  These presentations promote careers in Health, Hospital Services and Programs and how to access the NSW Ambulance Service.

The introduction of the National Standards (Standard 2 - Partnering with Consumers) for Accreditation has given a strong focus on community and consumer participation in our hospitals and community services, we welcome and encourage your participation.
