Breast cancer is a collection of cells in the breast that grow in an uncontrolled way.

• Breast cancer is the most common cancer affecting women in NSW.
  
  
• 1 in 8 women in NSW will develop breast cancer in their lifetime.
  
  
• 9 out of 10 women who develop breast cancer do not have a family history of breast cancer.
  
  
• The best time to treat breast cancer is when it is very small through a screening mammogram (breast screen).
  
  
• Most women who are diagnosed with a breast cancer when it is still very small are able to go back to their normal lives.
  
  
• Two specially trained radiologists independently read all mammograms.
  
  

• An appointment only takes 20 minutes every two years and could save your life.
  
  
• BreastScreen NSW is a quality program with strict accreditation requirements.
