Campbelltown Hospital
Child Assessment Team

Our Service

Who are we?

The Child Assessment Team (or the CATs team) at Campbelltown Hospital provides detailed assessments of young children with suspected developmental delays and disabilities.  The team includes two developmental paediatricians, a paediatric registrar, speech pathologists, occupational therapists, a physiotherapist, a social worker and a secretary.

Referrals are only accepted from paediatricians.  We see children living in the Macarthur District aged 0-6 years.  Please discuss with your general practitioner, preschool teacher or early childhood nurse if you have concerns about your child’s development.

The assessments

The CATS assessments are held in the Paediatric Outpatients on the lower ground floor of Campbelltown Hospital. (See link to map of Campbelltown Hospital in Useful Links). The appointments last approximately three hours. It is recommended that both parents attend, or if that is not possible, ask a friend or relative to come along.

You will be asked about your concerns and for details about your child's development and health.  You will also be asked to complete questionnaires about your child's development, behaviour and health.  Your child's development will be assessed using one of the well recognised measure of early child development including the Bayley Scales of Infant Development, The Griffiths Scales of Infant Development and The Autism Diagnostic Observation Scales.

Feedback and recommendations will be given to you on the day and a report will be posted to you and your referring doctor.
