Accessible Parking

Fairfield Hospital has a number of accessible parking spaces for people displaying their current Mobility Parking Scheme permit. The parking spaces outside of the car park are drop off zones and are timed to a maximum of 30 minutes. Fines will apply if this time is exceeded.

Please note that parking within the car park may incur a fee. If you visit the Hospital regularly and are having difficulty meeting parking costs, please speak to the Patient Liaison Officer.

South West Community Transport

This transport service is available to the frail aged, younger people with disabilities, carers and their families.

To make a booking and for assessment purposes phone 02 9426 8999 or visit their website http://swct.com.au/ for more details.

Booked / elective admissions and outpatient visit

If you require any special equipment or support needs during your stay in Hospital, please inform pre-admissions clinic or outpatient staff, so this can be organised before you arrive.

Admission to Emergency Department

If you have any specific care requirements or support needs during your stay in the Emergency Department, please alert staff so we can arrange to make your stay more comfortable.

Support while in Hospital

The Patient Liaison Officer is the support person for people with a disability while in Hospital. Ask to speak with the Patient Liaison Officer should you have any specific care requirements or support needs during your stay in Hospital.

If you have any communication aids please feel free to bring them to the Hospital with you but please advise staff if you are bringing them.

Telephone Typewriter Directory (TTY) service

If you would like access to a Telephone Typewriter Directory (TTY) phone for deaf people, please ask a staff member to contact the admissions office of the Hospital to organise a phone. Staff can also connect external phones to the National Relay service if you would like to use your own TTY phone or computer during your Hospital stay.

Accessible toilets

Accessible toilets for people with disabilities are available on every floor of the Hospital.

Interpreters

If you do not speak English well, we can arrange an interpreter for you through the Health Language Service. Auslan (sign interpreters) are also available on request for people with a hearing impairment.

Universal signage

The Hospital has universal signage wherever it is applicable. All other signage is to the Australian Standards requirements.

Guide dogs

Registered guide dogs are welcome at Fairfield Hospital. If you would like your guide dog to be with you while in Hospital, please advise staff so this can be arranged.

Participation in your care

Health staff must involve both you and where appropriate your carer/s in decisions about care and treatment. Tell them if you have any concerns or questions.
