Community and Consumer Participation

Community Participation The Bankstown Community and Consumer Representative Network (BCCRN) is a group of community and consumer representatives who are residents of the Local Government Area of Bankstown. Members of this network meet regularly at the hospital to develop, implement and evaluate local initiatives that improve health services both locally and at the District level.

The network has initiated programs such as the 'Volunteer Assistance with Feeding' program and the 'Top 5' project which improves care for people with dementia and supports the people who care for them. More broadly, Community and Consumer Participation is involved in areas such as Disability Services, Aboriginal Health and Multicultural Health and strives to ensure better access to health care for marginalised groups in the community.

As a Member, you will help make decisions about health service planning, setting priorities, policy development and issues of concern, to promote open communication between Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital and the Bankstown community.

You will also have the opportunity to participate in training and development that supports your important role in the community. Representatives may be nominated and elected as members of various hospital and district governance committees, although this is not a requirement of membership.

The introduction of the National Standards for Accreditation has given a strong focus on community and consumer participation in our hospitals and community services and we welcome your participation.
