Admission procedures

Under most circumstances, you will be admitted to Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital either as an emergency patient or a booked/elective patient.

Emergency admissions

You may be admitted to Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital after initially receiving treatment in the Emergency Department. If so, the admission procedure will take place once a bed has been made available for you in the Hospital. If there are delays for any reason, rest assured that your treatment will continue and you will be under close observation while you are waiting.

Booked/elective admissions

If you require a surgical procedure, your treating doctor will arrange for you to be placed on a waiting list in accordance with your Clinical Priority Category.

Before you arrive, you will receive a Recommendation for Admission Form, which includes a important health questionnaire which must be completed by yourself and your General Practitioner. This will help the anaesthetist assess whether you need any additional tests or a specialised visit to an anaesthetist at a clinic. It will also determine whether you can be admitted as a 'day-only' patent, or if an overnight stay is required.

It is very important that you follow all instructions on the letter you receive from the Hospital. If you are not able to undergo your surgery at the time arranged, please contact the Waitlist Department on 02 9722 7344 between the hours of 7.30am and 4.30pm Monday to Friday, so alternate arrangements can be made.

On arrival, you should present to the Admissions Office located in the main foyer of Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital where we will help you complete the admission process. Patients admitted under Workers Compensation or Third Party Insurance must provide full details to enable an insurance claim to be lodged.
