Healthy Urban Development Checklist

An interactive guide for health services when commenting on development policies, plans and proposals

HUD HUD HUD HUD

The purpose of the Checklist is to assist health professionals to provide comprehensive and consistent advice on urban development policies, plans and proposals. The Checklist is principally about helping to answer the questions:

  • What are the health effects of the urban development policy, plan or proposal?
  • How can it be improved to provide better health outcomes?

This website is based on the hardcopy Healthy Urban Development Checklist published in 2010,  providing the Checklist in an interactive online format. This allows users to complete and save the Checklist online. Users can complete the entire Checklist or select only those healthy urban development characteristics that are particularly relevant to the policy, plan or proposal they are considering. The website also provides information on healthy urban development, the relationship between health and urban development and planning systems of NSW and other Australian jurisdictions.

March 2014 - New Chapter:  Environmental sustainability and climate change

We have written a new chapter that identifies whether a policy, plan or proposal:

  • contributes to environmental sustainability
  • considers climate change mitigation and adaptation
  • promotes community resilience.
