NESB Communication Project

The Role of Family and Friends in Communicating with Older People from a non-English Speaking Background (NESB).

Interpreters, families and friends all have important and distinctive roles in facilitating communication between health professionals and older people from a non-English speaking background. A project took on the brief to identify the main issues of concern, barriers and good practises among stakeholders and inform families/friends, older people and health professionals about the role of families and friends in facilitating good communication. The project resulted in the in the development of two factsheets; one targeting health professionals and the other targeting older people family/friends. This second factsheet has been translated into Arabic, Assyrian, Chinese, Spanish, Turkish, and Vietnamese.
