- Join with the BIRU and other service providers to coordinate the delivery of safe and effective rehabilitation services.
- Provide education and training resources for workers and employers.
- Facilitate access to work programs through transport and driver rehabilitation.
Service Philosophy
The head2work service philosophy includes a belief that each client has the capacity to achieve improvements through rehabilitation activities and fulfil a work role. To this end, Head2work has 5 service elements underpinning service provision:
a) Early intervention
- Head2work provides pre-vocational programs that promote an early commencement of work activities. Clients are often referred at the time of discharge home from hospital to attend a pre-vocational
- Developing a structured routine of activities across the week is crucial for continued functional recovery post traumatic brain injury.
- Clients are often referred to head2work whilst still certified “unfit for work”
b) Integration of clinical and vocational rehabilitation:
- Head2work is part of the spectrum of rehabilitation services provided by the Liverpool Brain Injury Rehabilitation Unit. Programs provided by head2work aim to compliment the clinical and life goals of each individual.
c) Needs-based intervention
- Client programs are individualised, taking into account the background and unique circumstances of each client. The program pace and level of intensity is tailored to the needs of each client.
d) Employer education
- Successful re-integration back into the workplace requires an understanding on the part of the supervisors and co-workers about the situation and needs of the client.
- Education approaches are tailored to each workplace and communication managed sensitively through the RTW process to allow for gradual adjustment and understanding.
e) On-site intervention
- Intervention takes place at the worksite in preference to the rehabilitation centre to train clients in practical work skills.
The level of training support is tailored to the needs of each client and gradually withdrawn over time to promote independence and social inclusion
