Central Venous Access & Parenteral Nutrition Service

The Central Venous Access Service (CVAS) has been established in Liverpool Hospital for over 20 years, and has currently placed 10000+ central venous access devices (CVADs). It is one of the leading nurse-led vascular access services in Australia, and along with its committment to ongoing research, continues to contribute to the pool of current and supportive literature in this field. The service aims to promote patient safety, effective practices and best outcomes in Vascular Access.

The service is run and managed by the following staff;

Clinical Nurse Consultant – Nicholas Mifflin
Clinical Nurse Specialist –  Craig McManus

Our service provides >96% of  central venous access to both Liverpool Health Service inpatients and outpatients, including the Cancer Therapy Centre and promotes best evidence-based practices, using state of the art insertion and imaging technologies and vascular access products.

 
Our service outcomes are world class and we pride ourselves on maintaining our clinical excellence as one of the best nurse-led services anywhere in the world, supporting this with current research and publications.

Clinical audit, clinical research and up-to-date evidence-based practice to maintain and enhance service
provision

Monitoring for associated infectious complications of CVC’s within the Intensive Care Unit (CLABicu Project)
 

Accreditation and credentialling of clinicans placing CVADs.

 

Education of staff inserting and maintaining central venous access devices
