Liverpool - Hepatology

Liverpool - HepatologyThe Hepatology Clinic specialises in the care of patients with hepatitis and other liver diseases.  These include patients with ascities, autoimmune hepatitis, alcoholic hepatitis, alcoholic cirrhosis, hepatitis A, B and C, liver tumours and non-alcoholic fatty liver and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis.

Hepatology provides consultant led outpatient clinics, nurse led assessment and treatment clinics, counselling and education.

The Hepatology Clinic provides multidisciplinary care so patients can be evaluated with regards to treatment readiness.

Non-invasive liver fibrosis assessment is available using the Fibroscan or the Shear Wave. Both tests are used to assess the level of liver 'stiffness' in patients with liver disease. These tests are non-invasive, quick and virtually painless for patients.

A FibroScan is used for most patients but for those patients where the images are difficult to see the Shear Wave is recommended.
