12 June 2009
On 1 June 2009, Fairfield Drug Treatment Unit (Corella) launched their 100 day countdown to becoming a smokefree facility. During this time, Drug Health in-patients will be encouraged not to smoke during their stay and supported through nicotine-replacement therapy (NRT), smoking cessation education and activities. Ms Kiel praised staff for their hard work in preparing to become a smokefree facility.
In keeping with the philosophy of promoting health, at the end of this 100 day period (on 9 September 2009), Drug Health Services in-patient facilities at Fairfield and Concord will become totally smoke free. We ask that you help prepare potential patients of our services by advising them of this and assuring them that they will have access to NRT and support from staff.
