Rheumatology
The majority of patients are managed on an ambulatory basis with admissions mainly limited to patients with complex connective tissue disease, patients with complications of immunosuppression and patients with acute pain who are unable to weight-bear. The latter include an increasing number of patients with acute osteoporotic fractures. Increasing numbers of patients require infusion therapies including chemotherapy, biologic DMARD therapy, pulsed intravenous corticosteroids, intravenous immunoglobulin and antibiotic therapy. These are largely, currently managed through the ambulatory care service.
