Medical Assessment Units (MAU) - Bankstown

About

The Bankstown Medical Assessment Unit is a short stay General Medical and Aged Care Unit. It provides initial assessment and management of complex and elderly patients who require multidisciplinary treatment; and also fast tracks the management of patients who require a short hospital stay linking in with Hospital in the Home services and General Practitioners.

Patients are usually identified as suitable for the Medical Assessment Unit by Emergency Department medical officers, General Practitioner and other specialists. There is a wide variety of medical conditions that can be managed through the unit. An admitting Medical Assessment Unit team is available to take referrals and there is an established Medical Assessment Unit admission pathway.

If you need a longer stay in hospital you will be transferred to another ward in the hospital. The required treatment will continue there.
