Audiometry - hearing testing and treatment

Audiometry (hearing) clinics are available to children aged 3 years to school leaving age. The clinics provide hearing tests that help to diagnose and treat hearing problems.

A nurse will complete the hearing test and will explain how it works. They will also explain the results when testing is complete.

The NSW State Wide Infant Screening Hearing Program (SWISH) offers hearing assessments to newborn babies in hospital after their birth. If you or your baby needs to go home before you are able to have a hearing test, the SWISH Coordinator will contact you to set up a time.

Audiometry (hearing) clinics are held at the below community health centres:

  • Bowral community health centre 02 4861 8000
  • Fairfield community health centre 02 9794 1700
  • Hoxton Park community health centre 02 9794 0222
  • Ingleburn early childhood centre 02 8788 4200
  • Narellan community health centre 02 4633 0500
  • Wollondilly community health centre 02 4633 0000

Referrals to the Audiometry clinic can be made by anyone. Contact your local Community Health Centre.

Orthoptics - vision testing and treatment

Orthoptics clinics are available to children aged 0-18 years. The clinics provide vision tests to help diagnose and treat eye problems.

The Orthoptics clinic also accepts referrals for children who have had a Statewide Eyesight Preschooler Screening (StEPS) test.

The StEPS program gives all 4-year-old children a free vision test. The test will help to see if there are any vision problems early so that treatment can be offered. The StEPS program targets children in preschools and child care centres. 4-year-olds can also have their vision screened for free at a local Community Health Centre.

Referrals to the Orthoptics clinic can be made by anyone. Contact your local Community Health Centre.
