Child and Family Health Nursing Services

Child and Family Health Nursing Services are provided for children aged 0-5 and their families.

Services provided include:
  • Home Visiting is offered to all families with a newborn baby and follow-up visiting is available if required. The visit includes assessment, monitoring and early intervention strategies to enable physical and emotional development of the infant/child. This includes supporting parental physical, mental health and wellbeing and family functioning by providing health education/promotion and referral to appropriate support services if necessary. Sustained Health Home Visiting (SHHV) occurs in most areas of the Local Health District. Where possible SHHV is provided for families who need additional support and meet selection criteria. Aboriginal Health Education Officers and Social workers work as part of these teams.
  • Clinic based services are offered at Early Childhood Health Centres where information, education, guidance and monitoring regarding child developmental stages are provided. Breastfeeding clinics and support groups have also been established across the District to promote breastfeeding and assist mothers managing lactation.

  • Parenting  groups are conducted across the District

  •  Hearing assessments (see Audiometry)

  • The home visit, clinic appointments and group booking are made  by staff at Triple I (Hub)
