Planning Systems

Planning systems includes issues such as environmental design, sustainability and social context. Good planning helps create communities that offer better choices for where and how people live.

It is essential for health workers to understand the planning system relevant to their jurisdiction and the opportunities for participation. However, to enable change and meaningful participation, relationships between health professionals and planners must be formed. This Checklist provides technical support for health workers, but it does not replace the need to develop relationships with the planning profession.

Planning systems are governed by rules and regulations such as acts and control plans. In Australia, these are defined by the States and Territories.
