Refugee Women’s Health Network

The Refugee Women’s Health Network (formerly, the Refugee Women’s Health Working Group) was formed in 2008. It consists of health and settlement service providers, working in a coordinated manner to address the health information and service needs of newly arrived women from refugee backgrounds.

The Refugee Women’s Health Network is convened by the NSW Refugee Health Service. Meetings are held quarterly at various locations, including one at NSW Refugee Health Service in Liverpool. The meetings feature a guest speaker who presents on a specific topic or service relevant to the health of women refugees.

Previous key presentations have included:

  • a capacity-building project for bi-lingual community educators (BCEs) on the new cervical screening program
  • the health needs and barriers to accessing services of refugee women in western Sydney
  • health service provision to women refugees in regional NSW
  • breast screening for refugee women

The network also provides members the opportunity to promote new programs or initiatives relevant to refugee women and their families.

If you are interested in getting involved in the network, have any questions or if you need information about multilingual resources for migrant and refugee women, please email: SWSLHD-RefugeeHealth@health.nsw.gov.au
