Healthy Eating and Physical Activity Program for Multicultural Communities

The Healthy Eating and Physical Activity program is a multi-session program that was developed for multicultural communities by the SWSLHD Health Promotion Service in partnership with:

  • Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD)
  • Multicultural Health (Health Promotion Team)
  • SWSLHD Women's Health Service.

The program teaches community members how to achieve a healthy diet and include the right levels of physical activity in their lifestyles. It also has two optional sessions on children's health, and food safety, recipe modification and label reading. Uniquely, the program incorporates behaviour change through weekly goal setting and the referral into ongoing support from the Get Healthy Coaching Service.

Throughout 2014, 38 specialist multicultural workers from SWSLHD, WSLHD and Sydney Local Health District were trained in delivery of the program from Arabic, Assyrian, Chinese, Dari, English, Greek, Khmer, Korean, Kurdish, Spanish, Tagalog, Turkish, and Vietnamese speaking backgrounds.
