The Health Promotion Service is guided by the Health Promotion Service Strategic Plan (HPSSP) which is a plan for action aimed at improving and maintaining the health and wellbeing of people living in South West Sydney. It focuses on a number of risk factors important for the whole population and identifies particular groups at risk of chronic disease and injury. It also identifies population-based strategies to promote mental health and build healthy social and physical environments.
Targeted strategies have been identified to address the specific needs of disadvantaged communities and marginalised groups including members of the Aboriginal community, recent migrants and refugees, people living in socioeconomically disadvantaged areas and people living with, or at risk of, mental illness.
Health is recognised as having multiple dimensions, encompassing physical, mental and spiritual aspects, and multiple determinants, including social, economic and environmental factors. The HPS seeks to promote health through the collaborative efforts of a range of government and non-government agencies, individuals and community groups.
