Staying Safe in Community - Prevention and Response to Violence, Abuse & Neglect (PARVAN)
SWSLHD PARVAN Services sit within the Staying Safe in Community - Prevention and Response to Violence Abuse and Neglect (PARVAN) Directorate in Primary & Community Health.
PARVAN services are guided by NSW Health policy and practice priorities in relation to the prevention, identification, response to: domestic and family violence Aboriginal family violence adult and child sexual assault child physical and emotional abuse and neglect working with adult survivors of child sexual assault children and young people with problematic or harmful sexual behaviours medical and forensic examinations relating to sexual assault, child protection or domestic and family violence
NSW Health has invested in a redesign program for the PARVAN Services. This Program is underpinned by the PARVAN Framework which highlights the need for a strengthened Health response to violence, abuse and neglect and outlines system design principles for districts to implement. The Framework promotes a public health approach to preventing and responding to interpersonal violence. Integral to this public health approach is the promotion of integrated service delivery at system, service and practice levels. Staying Safe in Community - PARVAN Services Directorate staff work within a trauma informed framework with an understanding of and responsiveness to the impact of trauma on children, young people and their families. Staff ensure that services are provided in a manner that is welcoming, safe and appropriate for all, including individuals, families and communities who have experienced trauma. By adopting a trauma-informed and family sensitive approach, health services can play a key part in identifying and meeting the needs of children, young people, individuals, families and communities who are vulnerable.
