Endocrinology

Endocrinology is a study of organs in the body that make hormones. Hormones are substances that control activities in the body.  There are different hormones that control reproduction, metabolism (chemical processes in the body that maintain life and normal functioning), growth and development.  Organs that make up the endocrine system include pancreas, thyroid, parathyroid, ovaries, testes, adrenals and pituitary.

Endocrinologists are specialist doctors who diagnose and manage diseases that affect these organs.  They treat conditions that cause imbalances of hormonal production (either hormone excess or deficiency).  Some examples of these conditions include:
  1. Diabetes Mellitus
  2. Thyroid disease
  3. Osteoporosis
  4. Pituitary disease
  5. Adrenal disease

If you would like to seek Medical opinion regarding your endocrine condition, please ask your GP to complete the referral form that you can download from the website in Forms, and fax the referral to the appropriate Diabetes & Endocrine Service.
