How does the service work?

The Specialist Menopause Service looks after all of south west NSW. To make sure that all women can get a service without impacting their day-to-day living, we offer care online (virtual care).

This means that you will need to have a phone, computer or device to get care. If this does not work for you and your needs, please contact the Specialist Menopause Service Coordinator Mobile on 0472 607 238.

What can I expect from the service?

  • We need you to complete an online survey about your menopause symptoms before your appointment can be made. This survey link will be given to you by phone or email.  Completing the survey will help the team make appointments with the right people to help you the best we can and also save you time.
  • The team will make appointments with you for as long as you need treatment.
  • We understand that the most important person helping you at this time is your own doctor. We will hand over care to your doctor as soon as it is safe to continue treatment and follow ups.
About Menopause

What is Menopause?

Menopause is normal for every woman. It is when your period has stopped for twelve months. This usually happens around the age of 51 but it can be earlier.

While many women cope with mild to moderate menopause symptoms, some women may have very bad menopause symptoms due to:

  • starting menopause at an earlier age (for example, before 40)
  • because of medical treatments such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy or surgery
  • when the 'usual' treatments do not work or when complex medical issues mean you need some more help or guidance

Why is it important to manage menopause symptoms?

At the time of menopause, the risks of poor heart and bone health issues may get worse.  Treating your menopause symptoms will better protect a women's heart and bones if there are other health issues. Treating menopause symptoms will also improve a women's quality of life when symptoms are particularly bad, allowing them to live better and healthier lives.

For many women with very bad menopause symptoms, expert advice and guidance may be needed to assist with looking after their symptoms.

Who is the best person to treat menopause?

You and your doctor are best at treating your menopause symptoms or health risks.
