Social Work

The Social Work Service aims to improve the health, wellbeing and developmental outcomes for marginalised and vulnerable children (birth to 4 years) and their families through the provision of holistic social work interventions. These interventions include psychosocial assessments, care co-ordination, case management, counselling, advocacy and referral, group work programs, consultation and psycho-education.

The priority target groups of the service are young parents, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Background families, refugee and new arrival families, isolated families, low socio-economic families and children in Out of Home Care. It  also priorities families affected by parental mental illness, domestic violence, drug and alcohol misuse, child protection concerns and overall adjustment to parenthood issues (attachment and bonding, post-natal feelings, parenting etc.).

The service receives its referrals primarily from the Child and Family Health Nursing Services providing short-medium term intervention to families which is typically clinic based. Home visitation and outreach is also offered to families if access to the Primary & Community Health centre is not possible.
