Birthing occurs at Campbelltown Hospital for both Macarthur area hospitals (Camden and Campbelltown). Campbelltown Hospital has approximately 2800 births per year. The Birthing Unit consists of two assessment rooms and eight ensuite birthing rooms, three of which also have a spa bath.

The midwives and staff actively encourage normal birth where possible. We can support water births, vaginal births following caesareans, skin to skin contact after birth and the early establishment of breast feeding. We also offer an early discharge program after six hours where follow up is attended in the home by qualified midwives.

Campbelltown Birthing Unit is situated on the Ground floor adjoining the Maternity ward.

We allow up to three people to support the woman in labour. There is a support person’s beverage bay located in the unit and a kiosk on the lower ground floor to purchase food. Children and visitors are not permitted during labour and mobile phones are discouraged.

Family and friends are encouraged to allow the woman or her partner to inform them of the birth and to allow time after the birth to prepare for visitors.

Midwives and staff are unable to give any information over the phone in relation to the progress of the labour or birth details.

For further information, please contact Caroline Bester, Birthing Unit Manager, on 02 4634 4093.
